You say weak I say mistake

From a modern perspective the omission of slavery was a mistake (110-115). The compromise like the many others used to create the Constitution of course would lead to the Civil War. The omitting of the Bill of Rights, as Edmund Randolf pointed out would have made congress “too indefinite, too dangerous” (160-161). How foolish a group of wise men who suffered under the English were to navigate the creation of a constitution by which their country would follow without a Bill of Rights the protected their basic rights they had fought so hard to gain. Additionally, from a modern perspective the Electoral College system of voting in the president and vice president was not well thought out, as seen in having to make amendment number 12 of the Constitution- of course the founding fathers did not foresee or hope against the factions that would lead to political parties (205) as seen in the election of 1796 and then problem of tie votes as seen in the election of 1800.

Well, if you think in terms of the original Constitution, a big mistake was that it didn’t have a bill of rights, which was common in most state constitutions at the time. Another weak point was the method of presidential selection, which allowed the person with the most votes to become President, and the second place candidate to become Vice-President. Obviously, the founding fathers didn’t see the future of political parties. Then there was the whole issue of slavery. Take it out of practice and the south never ratifies the document, protect it with definite constitutional provisions and encourage, and you lose other support. That’s why it was an issue that was left for later generations.
